Out of the Cold | Winter Emergency Shelter

When Iowa's frigid winter blows in, the change in weather can be life-threatening for people experiencing homelessness.  As temperatures drop, they are at an increased risk of developing exposure-related conditions and dying from the below-zero temperatures. The Out of the Cold campaign funds our low-barrier Winter Emergency Shelter and Overflow Shelter and provides increased shelter capacity which is essential to accommodate the amplified need during winter months....

We're Getting Closer | Cross Park Place

Construction is progressing at Cross Park Place, a collaboration with Shelter House that will provide permanent supportive housing for the chronically homeless. The project takes a "housing first" approach that has been demonstrated to significantly reduce costs to local governments and NGO's. The building will be comprised of 24 one-bedroom apartments with on-site offices and an exam room for case managers and partnering health clinicians. Construction began in March 2018 and is scheduled to be complete and ready for move-in by the end of December. ....
