Winter Emergency Shelter | Out of the Cold

For those experiencing homelessness in Iowa, the change in weather can be life-threatening. As temperatures drop, people left with nowhere but the street to turn are at risk of developing hypothermia and frostbite—both can be permanently damaging to one's health and can ultimately result in the loss of life.

Out of the Cold funds our extensive outreach and combined efforts during the winter. We are only able to provide this much-needed programming with the support and generosity of our community. This winter, our goal is to raise $100,000 for the Out of the Cold campaign through your donations which allow us to cover the range of programs and supports that keeps people out of the winter cold and helps them get back on their feet and reconnect to the community.

Thank You for Your Kindness | Seasonal Donation Drives

Shelter House is humbled by the generosity of our amazing community! We've had multiple businesses, organizations, and individuals organize and execute donation drives that include warm winter clothing items, SOCKS (we received so many socks!), hygiene kits, blankets, nonperishable food items, bags and kits to distribute to those staying at both the Southgate shelter as well as the winter emergency shelter, toys - we're overwhelmed by your giving spirit! The response this season has in turn allowed Shelter House to share donations with other local agencies. From everyone at Shelter House, thank you for your kindness!
