We need YOU! | Book Sale Volunteers & Donations

The annual Shelter House Book Sale will be held on March 30, 10:30am – 4pm and March 31, 12pm – 4pm at the Johnson County Fairgrounds, Bldg. C. There will be thousands of gently used books plus music, movies, art, and vintage tees for sale. All proceeds will benefit Shelter House. In order to put on a successful event, we will need many volunteers during the weeks leading up to the sale to help sort and organize all incoming book donations and prepare the space. We will also need dedicated volunteers to assist during both dates of the sale and immediately after for tear down. Volunteers are encouraged to bring friends and family members to help out and to sign up for multiple shifts. Sign up here!

Accepting Book Sale Donations Through 3/24/2019

If you have books (and other media) you'd like to donate, they can be dropped off at Bldg. B at the Johnson County Fairgrounds. Donation drop-off is every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday from 10am – 2pm and Sundays from 1pm – 3pm through the week of the sale! At this time, we are unable to accept textbooks, encyclopedias, or magazines for the sale. Please direct all questions to Kaily Hoard at kaily@shelterhouseiowa.org.

Listen to learn how local law enforcement, healthcare professionals, and social service organizations are using these methods to better identify suitable care, rather than placing people into the criminal justice system.

Affordable Housing & Ending Homelessness | Aligning Strategically

Home, Together, the federal strategic plan to prevent and end homelessness, emphasizes that housing affordability is essential for achieving the Plan's goals. However, housing that is affordable to people at a wide range of income levels is in short supply across the country. And significant racial inequities in access to housing still exist, creating disparate impacts. Because housing costs are rising more quickly than incomes in many markets, renter households at the lowest income levels face the greatest challenges with housing costs.
