All proceeds from BBQ Bash directly advance our mission and specifically Emergency Shelter and Rapid Rehousing Programs. This is a major fundraiser for both programs with a goal of raising $45,000. Shelter House seeks support to operate our 70-bed shelter facility for men, women and children experiencing homelessness and to provide retention and stability services which include assistance with locating affordable housing, deposit & rent assistance and on-going case management.

Many times, people experiencing homelessness are also managing a mental health condition. At Shelter House, our mission is to end homelessness, part of that is in overcoming the stigma attached to being without a place to call your own. The mission of This is My Brave is to end the stigma of mental illness through live presentations of essays, original music, comedy and poetry performed by those impacted by mental illness. The Englert Theater, Sunday, September 16 at 2:00pm.
As of January, the ministry said Friday, 4,977 people were living in places such as riverbeds or parks, down 557 from a year ago and under 5,000 for the first time since it began surveying the ranks of the homeless in 2003.
“Support measures from governments, such as counseling, are believed to have produced certain effects” that reduced the number of homeless people, a ministry official said.
About Shelter House Much more than a roof and a bed. Since 1983, Shelter House has provided safe shelter and helped people improve the quality of their lives as they move beyond homelessness. We offer a robust continuum of programs and supports focusing on emergency, stabilization, and long-term interventions in the areas of housing, employment, and mental health recovery. In so doing, we help hundreds of men, women and children each year to get back on their feet. For more information about Shelter House, visit https://shelterhouseiowa.org/
