Throughout the last 40 years, Shelter House has evolved to meet the changing needs of individuals and families in crisis in our community. From its beginning as a house in Iowa City’s Northside neighborhood that provided 29 sleeping spaces, we currently operate homelessness prevention, rapid rehousing, and street outreach programs as well as multiple facilities that provide a 70-bed emergency shelter, a second shelter during the winter, four homes, and two housing-first apartment building complexes with over 60 permanent supportive housing units.

As we continue moving forward with innovative solutions to prevent and end homelessness in the community, we know nothing we do happens without you. Our fundraising goal is $200,000 - to retire the commercial debt on 501 Southgate and to open doors to expanding and enhancing our programs that offer lifesaving support to some of our most vulnerable neighbors.
