So Many Socks! | Tis' the Giving Season Mary's Farm Sanctuary coordinated with Shelter House to collect donations of socks from across Johnson County. The goal at the outset was to have one pair of new socks to go with each of the 500 winter jackets received from the non-profit organization One Warm Coat via the Minnesota-based apparel company UNRL. By the end of National Hunger and Homelessness Week (November 11-16) the generosity of many Iowa City, Hills, Kalona, Wellman, Solon, and Lone Tree individuals, businesses, schools and churches and from departments at the University of Iowa resulted in the donation of 2,437 pairs of socks, nearly five times the original goal! | |
